Moonrise Kingdom

Nothing excites me like a new Wes Anderson movie. Moonrise Kingdom is Wes Anderson's latest effort about two young socially-outcast individuals falling in love and going on very cute adventures to get away from their rather dysfunctional families. The girl is from a dysfunctional family with an aggressive father and mother who is secretly in love with the island's only policeman while the boy is an orphan who kept changing foster homes due to eccentricity and an outcast in his boy scout camp. After meeting for the first time at a church play, the two individuals started to exchange letters which led up to their plan of escape and adventure. As all Wes Anderson movies are, this one is also filled with lovely cinematography with every frame of the film being picture perfect in all its beautiful quaint glory. Dark humour has always been characteristic in his films and this one is no different which makes me so tickled in the cinema and also teary-eyed when it comes to those poignant and touching parts. Adorable puppy love with a quirky and dark slant. Miserable and under-appreciated individuals who find love and acceptance. Stellar performance from the cast (both the old and young). Gorgeous sets and backdrops. What is there not to love? :)
